The Cambridge Exam Board HQ (Project Triangle)
Sector:
Location: Cambridge
Team: Bouygues Principal Contractors – Level Contracts partner with Grant Westfield
Project Brief: Grant Westfield tasked Level Contracts with installing their ‘façade flush’ range of cubicles and ‘clip clad’ IPS throughout the entire building.
Value: £270,000
Duration: Nine Months
Results: The project was successfully delivered between our site and the management team. All stakeholders were happy from inception to completion.
Activities: We were tasked with implementing a ‘Façade flush,’ a high-end CGL washroom solution with a minimal gap between doors and pilasters and ceiling and floor (5-10mm). Each washroom consisted of an IPS system for both vanity and cubicles, including mirrors and solid-surface washbasins. Four number cores (based around stairwells across two buildings, North and South, connected by a high-level walkway). Four floors throughout and a range of male, female, and acc wc washrooms for each floor and core. Three hundred cubicles throughout, including showers.
Challenges: The building was a new build, and we were to install into empty rooms with finished floors, and tails for plumbing. The project had multiple phases, which we adhered to. However, due to the nature of the ‘façade flush’ system, floors and walls need to be within a minimal tolerance. Otherwise, the cubicles would appear ‘stepped’ throughout the run. We had to consult with the principal and floor layers on multiple occasions to manage our installation and adjust for incorrect levels, which were frequent. This involved many logistical challenges and adjustments to phasing.
Successes: We took a proactive approach by initiating weekly meetings with Bouygues, ensuring we adapted quickly to schedule changes and overcame logistical challenges to stay on track. Our commitment to safety was unwavering, with our site manager and project manager updating the Health & Safety File daily. This diligence led to successful weekly audits and daily checks, which we transparently shared with all stakeholders through regular reports. Our dedication to these measures allowed us to complete the project without a single near miss, injury, or accident, demonstrating our commitment to both efficiency and safety.
